To be America’s Best Community in a rural area means you better have farmers who love doing what they do, where they do it and receive support from those that they do it for. In Statesboro, Georgia, we love our farmers!
Statesboro stands out supporting farmers in many ways, and here are three that our community is proud of:
- Main Street Farmers Market: Statesboro has an award winning Main Street Farmers Market. Founded by community volunteers and enthusiastically supported by area citizens, the Farmers Market has been a huge success. This would not be possible without the local farmers from all across the southern region of Georgia who work hard to bring the most delicious organically grown vegetables, meat and other products to the market. The Market2Go online market place allows customers to order online throughout the year. They can obtain the freshest produce, meats and products produced by local farmers with a click of a button and a quick pick up spot. Open every Saturday, April to October from 9:00 am -12:30 pm in the Charlie Olliff Square at Sea Island Bank, located in Downtown Statesboro right on the Boro Blue Mile!
- Ag Night Out during First Friday: On Friday, October 2nd from 5:30 – 7:30 pm, Main Street Statesboro will be celebrating our farming community during the 3rd Annual Ag Night Out. An event that focuses on area agricultural businesses, the entire downtown square will come alive with farm games and activities, a working grist mill, tractor exhibits, a petting zoo, plant sales and more. There will be fun for the whole family as downtown turns in to “farm town!”
- Farm Family of the Year Award: A special recognition that the Statesboro Bulloch County Chamber of Commerce Agribusiness Committee invokes each year is the Farmer of the Year Award. In addition, Ag Partner of the Year for agribusiness supporters is awarded. Nominations will open in early November 2015 and can be found on the Chamber’s website and the Statesboro Bulloch County Chamber of Commerce Agribusiness Committee Facebook page. Statesboro and Bulloch County recognize farmers and agriculture partners because we recognize their importance in our community. We depend on our agriculture community economically, physically and emotionally because we know they take care of our fresh food needs. The Chamber wants our agribusinesses to know how important they are to keeping Statesboro America’s Best Community, and these recognitions are a great way to spotlight their importance to our well being.
Agriculture is responsible for $100 million in annual farm gate revenues. The agribusiness sector is a vital part of a strong economy in Bulloch County, Georgia.
