The Downtown Statesboro Development Authority board held their annual meeting on Thursday, June 11. The luncheon was in the Statesboro Quality Inn ballroom. This year’s theme was “Wrap-Up a good year!” which emphasized all the great revitalization that has happened downtown. The Board gave a presentation which highlighted the achievements of downtown Statesboro. New businesses received special recognition and support. Before and after pictures of renovated buildings and businesses were shown. They also discussed the Redevelopment Powers Law that recently passed. Statesboro was recently named one of America’s Best Communities, which awarded them a grant that will be used to spur economic activity in the downtown corridor. The Annual Brick awards were given to recognized businesses and downtown supporters. Six awards were presented to those whose hard work and creativity was merited. The Heritage Award went to Esquire Beauty Supply because of their long-term standing and success. The Best New Business was in recognition of Humble Abodes’ great start. Best Downtown Redevelopment was presented to Hollywood & Sons Barbershop. Salon Cheveux was awarded the Most Improved Interior Award. Keely Fennell, Darron Burnette, and Bryan Davis all received the Best Downtown Supporter this year for their hard work in their community. The Excellence in Downtown was given to Statesboro Convention and Visitors Bureau who all have been great assets to this community and downtown. The Annual Meeting demonstrates the great partnerships and collaboration in our community. A catered lunch at the Statesboro Quality Inn was excellent.
